A governmental scholarship will be great for you. They offer the most money and often cover all fields.
When you have at heart to help your country, government scholarships are a great way to go. In your application be convincing: why should they give the scholarship to you and not another student? are professionals in your field desperately needed in your country? if so why? can your country trained such professional? (I hope no)
Use our search engine www.helpforafricanstudents.org /.../
Here is something I highly recommend too:

My name is Barnabas Kirui. I came to USA through a running scholarship.
Regarding your question above, I can tell you that it is possible to get a scholarship. Since American coaches can not come to watch you play in Africa, the way recruiting works is that they require to watch a tape of your game if there is any, before they can approve a scholarship for you.
Meanwhile, the process of getting a scholarship starts with contacting a coach in the athletic department and talking about yourself. You just need to email coaches from different schools you would like to attend and explain that you are a good athlete. They will then ask you for prove, and if they can obtain that, they will ask you to apply for admission and then a scholarship will be set up for you.
You will be required to register with NCAA, a body that monitor all college sports.
Here is something I highly recommend:
